Chernobyl

In the early morning of April 26, 1986, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, then USSR, exploded, creating the worst nuclear disaster ever seen.
People were evacuated by officials and they closed off an 18-mile, 30 km, area around the plan. Despite government policy some 300 residents returned to their farms. For them Chernobyl is the only place they can live.
During several trips I traveled to Chernobyl to photograph the remaining residents, many now elderly, and their surroundings, all inside the sealed off area.
